From John Mackay at 2008-10-02 21:59:12 : That's a view of Loch Striven - Striven View is where we Mackays
lived.... 22 Marine Place...I left in 1946 and I have a photo from the front of the house on the desktop of this computer as I write. It is also a view of Loch Striven. Was it 1942 when the San Demetrio would have been shown there 300 yards away and with 'SOS HELP' on sheets hanging from the burnt out bridge?
From at 2008-10-02 22:35:25 : The 'Striven View' at Marine Place is still there and the top flat is currently for sale, John! See the online schedule here.
From John Mackay at 2008-10-07 09:40:53 : Fascinating, thank you! My G.Aunt Jessie MacFie lived in this part of the house. She died about 96 yrs old in '51, a spinster lady who spent her life looking after the Mackay children - like me and my father before me. She drank tea with a little nutmeg and made jams which she kept until the mould grew - the alcohol content of this and the drug effect of the nutmeg kept her very cheerie indeed! Her sister was Jeannie Mackay (MacFie) and died in Glasgow in 1951.
